Sheepshead Jigs & Tog Jigs, Poured and Painted in the USA

Hunting and Fishing Depot is a family-owned and operated tackle shop, and we pour and paint our own sheepshead jigs right here in the USA. These are the jigs we fish ourselves around bridges, docks, pilings, jetties and rock piles. Every style is built to hold a fiddler crab, barnacle, shrimp or clam on the bottom, where sheepshead feed, and they work just as well for tog (tautog/blackfish) up north.

How to Choose Sheepshead Jig Weight and Color

Use the lightest jig that keeps your bait on the bottom. Many anglers fish 1/4oz to 1/2oz around docks and shallow pilings, and 1oz or more in deep water, strong current and inlets. Fiddler crab colors look natural around barnacle-covered structure, while chartreuse, pink and bright colors stand out in stained water.

How to Fish a Sheepshead Jig

Hook a fiddler crab, piece of shrimp, barnacle or clam on the jig and drop it straight down next to the structure. Keep a tight line and lift it a few inches off the bottom, then let it settle. Sheepshead bite lightly, so set the hook at the first tap or weight change. Scraping barnacles off the pilings to chum can fire them up, and a swing jig gives the bait natural movement in current.
